Hello there – Welcome to my Happy Place!!
A few things about my blog & me.
Baking 4 Six is literal in that I enjoy baking for my family of 6 and metaphorical in my role as a woman/wife/mother where I take all the ingredients that life brings and turn them into the recipe that is our family. You can read more about me as I share my life throughout my posts. You’ll find a bit about everything including recipes, resources, decor, home improvement, fashion, food and travel —
I always wanted to be a mom and my husband/aka best friend and I were blessed with 4 children. We met in 1992 and time has passed way more quickly than I ever imagined. I’m definitely young at heart and my husband would say that I’m a “big” kid, our children would say the same. I think I enjoy just about any activity, hobby or sport and I’m pretty handy with tools.I wish “blogging” & digital photography had been a thing when I was in my early 20s… but at that time the internet was just being created. It would be wonderful to have an online photo-diary of the past 25 years – recipes, trips, birthday parties etc. However, since I can’t go back in time, I’m hoping to merge some of the past into the present with my posts partly as a legacy to pass on to my children, but to share the wisdom I have gained (often the hard-way) throughout the years.
Baking 4 Six came about when I discovered these things called blogs around 2008. I was a little late to the blogging world, or so I thought back then. My children were 5, 7, 9, and 12 years old. Anyway, in 2009 I decided to start my blog. I thought that it would be a creative outlet for me to write, work on photography skills and document recipes so that I could easily find them and pass them to my children. I started learning all about the process and trying out different free blog sites and in November 21, 2010 I wrote my first official Baking 4 Six post.
I can’t help but think where my blog would be now if I hadn’t lost my blog back in 2012. I didn’t exactly lose the blog, but I lost the Baking 4 Six domain name. I had worked hard to make my blog and myself a recognizable name among up and coming bloggers in the baking/craft/homemaking world… back when Facebook pretty much had a monopoly on the social media world. If you follow the cookie decorating world at all you probably know who one of them is. I’m back now so we’ll see if anyone remembers me??
I have enjoyed baking since I was a young child and made pie-dough cookies practically every time I visited with my Grandma Edith. My grandmother was very artistic and she could cut the pie crust into the shape of anything I wanted. She once made Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion from the Wizard of Oz. How I wish we had pictures of those cookies.
I began decorating simple cakes around age 12 when my Grandma June passed along her Wilton cake decorating supplies to my mom. I’ve alway been around baking & treat making as my mom was always baking something to share with my class or her co-workers.
During my college years, I worked for a small, but now immensely popular European Bakery in Sacramento. The owner offered to train me, but I declined his offer because I was working toward my BA degree. I kind of regret that decision. However, during the past 25 years since I met my husband, graduated college, been a school teacher and have been a mom for over 20 years. Except for a few years working as a teacher’s aide (which meant I was in the classroom all day with both my younger children during both of their 1st grade years). There are 6 of us in my immediate family, hence the name Baking 4 Six which my husband came up with when I asked for his help in naming my blog.
Squawk (Confession)… I pride myself in my ability to “edit” and catch typos for other people — however, I’m probably one of the worst “self-editors” especially on a computer screen. Seriously, the worst – sigh. So if you catch a typo, an error, an omission or if something just doesn’t look quite right, please kindly let me know in the comments section.
